Local courts

System of local courts of the Kyrgyz Republic consists of:

• Oblast courts and courts equivalent to oblast courts (Military Court of the Kyrgyz Republic and Bishkek City Court);
• Rayon courts and courts equivalent to rayon courts (rayon courts in the city, city courts, military courts of military divisions, inter-rayon courts).

Rayon court is a court of the first instance consisting of a chair and judges.

Oblast court is a court of the second instance consisting of a Chair, his/her Deputies, and judges.

The following structures are functioning in the Oblast court:

• judicial board on criminal cases and cases on administrative offences;
• judicial board on civil cases;
• judicial board on administrative and economic cases.

There are 9 second instance courts and 69 first instance courts in the Kyrgyz Republic. The total number of judges in local courts is 388.  The number of judges of local courts is established by the President of the Kyrgyz Republic in accordance with the standards of workload of judges and number of local courts’ staff.
